Sunrise at Maroon LakePhotographer: Jason Hill
The trip to Aspen has become an autumn ritual for me, and lining up along the east shore of Maroon Lake at sunrise is part of that. On a late September weekend morning, there can be 50 or more photographers at Maroon Lake, all trying to catch one of Colorado's most recognized views.
Ironically, after having photographed the Maroon Bells from Maroon Lake at sunrise on probably fifteen mornings or more, my first morning ever at the site gave me my best photos. This photo was taken in 2006 during my first sunrise at Maroon Lake, and edited in 2014. I visited Maroon Lake recently, but the weather was stormy and the mountains were in the clouds. So, I looked at my older photos are realized that I hadn't yet done anything with this one.
